Hermantown Seeks Community Input on Comprehensive Plan
HERMANTOWN, Minn. — The city of Hermantown is planning forward into the next 20 years. City officials are wrapping up the final stages of the city’s comprehensive plan.
The last time the city made a comprehensive plan was back in 2001. This new plan will look outwards to 2045.
The comprehensive plan looks to address a growing population, plan out growth for new businesses, address needs for public safety, and provide options for transportation.
The city is encouraging residents of Hermantown to be involved in what they would like to see improved for Hermantown’s future. On the city’s website for the plan, an interactive map and survey is available for officials to receive community feedback.
“When I think about, even from the development side, the risks that developers take to outlay their big idea and the ways that it can benefit the community,” said Joe Wicklund, the assistant city administrator for the city of Hermantown. “We want to have the structures in place, the relationships in place for them to be successful taking that risk the same time. We want to show residents, hey, this is the way that your experience in this hometown is enhanced by a few of these key changes and evolutions that happen going forward.”
The plan is set to be reviewed by the Planning & Zoning Commission later this month. A public hearing will then be held before going before the Hermantown City Council next month.
