St. Louis Co. Rescue Squad’s Infrared Drone Helps Locate Missing Man
BREVATOR TOWNSHIP, Minn. — The St. Louis County Rescue Squad is crediting its drone technology for safely locating a missing man with dementia.
Drone Pilot Carter Nelson was one of the pilots using the infrared technology Saturday night for the missing 61-year-old man.
The search effort was centered around Brevator Township in the area of Highway 2 and Independence Road.
An infrared photo was shared by the Rescue Squad on social media showing how the man was located around 11 p.m. Saturday lying down in the tree line along Highway 2.
A bright red spot was the man showing his body giving off the most heat.
Some of the trees also gave off a red color because of the heat consumed from earlier sunlight, according to officials.
The man was wet and hypothermia but was able to walk and talk.
