‘Tequila Town’ Owner Changes Sign After Controversy In Esko
ESKO, Minn. — A Mexican restaurant in Esko has made some changes to its sign after the town board raised issue with alcoholic words in the sign being too close to Esko Schools.
The original sign recently installed read: “Tequila Town Authentic Mexican Cuisine & Bar.”
But over the weekend, Owner Rafael Mata posted a photo of the sign edited to comply with township rules. It reads: “Tequi Town Authentic Mexican Cuisine.”
The “l” and “a” have been removed, including “bar.”
The change came after board members said the sign promotes alcohol, which is against liquor license rules near schools.
Mata has said the original name of the business was inspired by his hometown, Tequila, Mexico.
Tequila Town is the name of his other two Minnesota restaurants in Crystal and St. Cloud.
But Mata told FOX 21 he didn’t want any problems and that he is committed to operating in Esko for years to come.
