Rock Ridge Girls Basketball Set to Face Marshall in the State Quarterfinal Round

The Wolverines and the Tigers square off on Wednesday, March 12th.

DULUTH, Minn.- The Rock Ridge girls basketball team learned who their first-round opponent is at the state tournament.

The Wolverines earned the sixth seed in class AAA and will face Marshall in the quarterfinal round.

Rock Ridge defeated Hermantown in the section 7 AAA title game 73 to 54.

The trip to the state tournament wasn’t easy for the Wolverines and it took everyone’s dedication to the program.

“I am so excited for the kids and so proud of them because of the commitment that they put into our program at all levels,” said Rock Ridge head coach Byron Negen. “They buy into what we are trying to teach them and how they get along with the younger kids and promoting our game and our program.”

Now that the State tournament is a few days away.

The Wolverines will take what they learned from last year’s run to state and look to make a deeper run.

“We want to get farther this year, I think last year we just really wanted the feeling of making it to state and now we have experience, and we really want to make a run down there.” said Rock Ridge guard Anna Westby. “We have to have good practices, be tough, we have too just encourage every single person on the team that everyone matters. We just have to be a team and play our kind of basketball.”
