Cherry Boys Basketball Wins Fourth Consecutive Section 7A Title Game, Earning a Spot in the State Tournament

The Tigers defeated the Warriors 77 to 56 to earn their fourth consecutive state appearance.

DULUTH, Minn.- The section 7A boys basketball championship game took place on Saturday.

The top-seeded Cherry Tigers met up with the Deer River Warriors with a trip to the state tournament on the line.

The Tigers defeated the Warriors 77 to 56 to earn their fourth consecutive state appearance.

“The goal is to take care of business one step at a time and win the section. This team has big goals, we have been at the top of the mountain last year and we want to get back there again,” said Cherry head coach Jordan Christianson. “They gave us a couple good punches and I am just proud of our guys that they were able to stay cool, calm, and collected. You know, never too high, never too low, and were able to keep their cool and finish this off.”

Despite the Warrior’s hot start to the contest, the Tigers continued to play as one.

“They came out hot, and I guess we were kind of just seeing how long they were going to go for, and we knew that we had to come back and fight hard,” said Noah Sundquist. “Each and every year, it’s just, we grow closer and closer as one and I just love that about them. It’s like our second home.”

The Tigers earned the top seed in the class A tournament and will face BOLD on Thursday, March 20th.

Tip-off is at 11 a.m.
