4th Annual Minnesota Film Fest Kicks Off!

DULUTH, Minn — The 4th Annual Minnesota Film Fest Kicked off today!

About 120 independent films will be shown through Sunday.

Zeitgeist Arts is hosting the event.

Everyone is welcome to attend, there are single show tickets available as well as festival passes.

They are also holding Q and A’s, various panels, and live performances.

Many of the filmmakers will be attending their shows and others!

“I think what separates us from the coasts of New York and LA is that our community is super supportive, and everyone’s just a great,
great in terms of just so nice and so community oriented. So when we have out of towners come in, especially to a place like Duluth, I’m hearing all the time that they are met with open arms and being welcomed and just really excited to help promote their film and encourage filmmakers to shoot in our area, because the more people that come through, the better” said Vera Bianchini, Minnesota Film Programs Director at Zeitgeist.

Many of the same feelings are shared by the filmmakers.

They are holding a Pitch Competition that gives filmmakers a chance to earn funding towards their film ideas.

Funding is often a major struggle for indie filmmakers.

“We’ve submitted to a few different festivals. We’ve been accepted to a few different ones, but this is the first one where it’s opening night. So, we feel they’re making us feel extra special here” said Alex Maier, a Filmmaker for ‘Mississippi Speed Record’, “We’re not embedded in a very tight knit filmmaker community, and we kind of live in the middle of nowhere in Montana, so there’s not a lot going on around us. So, to have an opportunity to meet other people who are kind of in the filmmaking industry, that’s a big opportunity for us.”

Tickets and passes can be reserved online or at the door.

There will be rush tickets available for sold out shows.

Tickets are still available, but they do tend to sell out fast.
