UMD Football Kicks Off Spring Ball with First Practice

The Bulldogs will have 14 full squad practices and will wrap up their spring slate with a scrimmage at Northern Michigan on April 12th.

DULUTH, Minn.- On Thursday, the UMD football team held practice number one of the spring.

The Bulldogs will have 14 full squad practices and will wrap up their spring slate with a scrimmage at Northern Michigan on April 12th.

The contest against the Wildcats will be the first-ever spring game on the road for the Bulldogs.

Head Coach Curt Wiese knows the game starts in the trenches and that will be a big focus for him during these spring practices.

“I think we have a ton of competition right now on our offensive line for one or two spots. We have a ton of competition on our defensive front. We have a ton of competition on our linebacking crew and those two areas for us right now our definitely areas we need to address. Traditionally, UMD football has been really good on both sides of the football up front. That’s our goal here is to get to that spot here by next fall,” said Wiese.

“I think for me, theme for my whole career here is just develop throwing a little bit. Slowly get better at that, work on techniques and I think overall just build a team, make us better, and just be able to lead all the younger guys,” added quarterback Kyle Walljasper.

UMD is coming off a 7-4 season in 2024.
