New Solar Power Co-op for Northeast Minnesota

NORTHERN MINNESOTA — A nonprofit is launching a new co-op for anyone interested in learning more about solar energy, or even getting involved with it.

Solar United Neighbors, or “SUN” is a national nonprofit, and their new opportunity was launched last week. The goal of the co-op is to help homeowners, farmers, and small business owners learn about this option. The co-op is hosting in person and online seminars in Duluth and Grand Marais, they’re free for anyone to attend.

“SUN” has helped more than 300 families go solar in the state of Minnesota. Being able to offer a stress free and open environment for learning is something one of the solar experts takes pride in.

“We’re really interested in meeting folks who are interested in solar, where they are. People have all sorts of different reasons for being interested,” said John Anderson, a Minnesota program associate with Solar United Neighbors. “People are interested in saving money for utilities, or for energy independence reasons or environmental concerns. And we’re really just here to help and support people who are interested in going solar, to try and help them along that path.”

The virtual solar webinar takes place March 27th, and the in person seminars is coming up on April 8th in Duluth at the First United Church. On May 13th it will be held at the Cook County Community Center in Grand Marais.
