State Boys Basketball: Cherry Falls Short in Class A State Title Game Against Dawson-Boyd
The Tigers fell to the Blackjacks 81 to 74 in the class A state title game.
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- After defeating Nevis in the state quarterfinal round 79 to 70, the Cherry boys basketball team is back in the class A state title game for the second consecutive year.
The top-seeded Tigers took on the second-seed Dawson-Boyd on Saturday.
In the first half, the Tigers were down by eleven. But late in the half, the Tigers cut the lead down to six as they trailed 38 to 32 at the half.
Leading the way in the first half for the Tigers were Noah Asuma, Isaiah Asuma, and Noah Sundquist each with 10 points.
Over in the second half, the Tigers still playing from behind as they were down by nine points early.
However, the Tigers put together a 13-0 run to regain the lead 55 to 51.
Late in the second half, the Blackjack’s offense heated up as they went on an 11-0 run to take a 73-61 lead.
Sadly, the Tigers couldn’t make the late comeback, as they fell to the Blackjacks 81 to 74 in the class A state title game.
The leading scorer for the Tigers was Noah Sundquist with 21 points.
The Tigers finished the year 31-2.
