DECC Seawall Reconstruction Nearly Done

DULUTH, Minn. — The DECC Seawall reconstruction is getting close to completion!

The 18-million-dollar project is on its final steps.

This project aimed to make the seawall more stable and better able to accommodate the large cruise ships.

Some of the visions for the seawall plaza behind the DECC include an outdoor concert space, more ‘winter village’ style events with shops, and more public space for people to just enjoy.

“Something that I’ve always enjoyed in my career, that you’ve probably watched, is taking a space that people have kind of forgot was there and then bringing it to life. This is going to be one of those things that, once it’s complete, and we’re probably still five years out from like, the fun, cool stuff, but once that’s done, it’s going to be one of those things of, like, how did we not think of this before?” said Dan Hartman, Executive Director for the DECC.

While the seawall just has dredging left, the ribbon cutting ceremony isn’t scheduled until June.

The dredge residue will be used to help fill in Lot D, the gravel lot outside Bayfront.
