HDC Clinic Introduces ‘Queer Community Connections’
DULUTH, Minn. — The Human Development Center Clinic in Downtown Duluth is giving Queer, Trans, and Nonbinary members a space to connect.
For three months now, HDC has been providing a weekly meeting to get queer clients together.
The closed group is giving clients the chance to get back into the community, and hear each other’s stories and experiences.
‘Queer Community Connections’ focuses on providing coping skills, resources and support towards the group.
Being able to provide this space during a challenging time is especially important for the organizer.
“With everything going on, whether it be culturally, socio-politically, there’s a lot of areas where people are not allowed to be themselves,” said Alex Lorenz, a dual licensed therapist at HDC. “Whether it be not having access to care in other states, whether it be not feeling comfortable or safe with just being out in our community.”
In the future, Queer Community Connections is hoping to get involved with tabling at events such as Trans-joy fest, and other festivals.
But for now, clients are able to stay involved for 8 weeks. HDC staff is hoping to extend the program.
