Rhubarb Festival Moving To New Location
Chum’s 20th annual Rhubarb Festival is moving to a new location.
After several years at First Lutheran Church and Holy Rosary School. it will be moving to at Asbury United Methodist Church.
It’s located at 6822 Grand Avenue near the Lake Superior Zoo.
The fest will take place Saturday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In a news release Chum’s volunteer and event coordinator Bud Trnka said, “It’s a 26-mile long city, and our services extend to all of Duluth, so we’re really thrilled to be moving west this year with our rhubarb pies, crisps, jams, scones, beverages, music, contests and children’s activities.”
John Cole, executive director of Chum, added, “We are happy to bring our Rhubarb Fest, this fun-filled family fiesta that raises funds and friends for Chum, to the West Duluth neighborhood. As we stretch ourselves to serve more of our unhoused brothers and sisters, we hope that more of our community will equally stretch out to support us so that together we can create a Duluth that’s viable, enjoyable and beneficial for everyone.” He continued, “Chum provides emergency food, shelter, support and outreach throughout Duluth, and Asbury United Methodist, as one of our member congregations, has been so gracious in providing us with this space. Each year the event has grown–last year we had approximately 3,000 people in attendance, so this location will provide us with the space we need for the number of people we’ve come to expect.”
Asbury United Methodist Reverend Katherine Cornell is excited to host the long-running event, “the mission statement of Asbury United Methodist Church includes serving and blessing our community. I see hosting the Chum Rhubarb Festival as part of that service and blessing. We hope everyone who comes will feel welcomed and loved.”
