Northern Star: Aiden Williams
Williams is looking to become the first Bulldog drafted since 1990.
DULUTH, Minn.- UMD offensive lineman Aiden Williams has dreamed of this moment his whole life.
No, it wasn’t when he scored a touchdown this past September against Southwest Minnesota State.
It’s the upcoming NFL Draft in Green Bay.
“Just kind of looking forward to what’s next. I’ve just been working out and lifting every day, doing drills, stuff like that, staying in shape. Just kind of waiting for a call,” said Williams.
Williams has put himself in a good position in getting that call with solid showings at the University of Minnesota Pro Day and the Shrine Bowl.
“I would say probably a handful of teams that were pretty interested. I’m not going to name them for reasons. But there are a few. I think everyone at the Shrine Bowl, because I met with all 32 scouts. They were all kind of impressed with my story, kind of where I came from. So I think I made a good impression there as well,” added Williams.
Finding a new home isn’t the only change for the lineman. He’s also making a switch to the guard and center position after being a tackle last season.
“Playing against bigger guys up front. Outside guys, the d-ends, they’re a little bit faster, little bit smaller than the guys in the middle. But you know at that level everyone is big and strong so it doesn’t really matter where you are,” said Williams.
Putting in the necessary work for something that hasn’t been done at UMD since 1990.
“It’d be an honor. Just to say that there’d be only a handful of us you know coming from here to go play at the next level. Yeah, it’d just be an honor,” added Williams.
The NFL Draft takes place on April 24th in Green Bay.
