Derek Medved Announces Candidacy for Duluth City Council At-Large

DULUTH, Minn. — Local business owner and former Duluth City Council member Derek Medved announced his Candidacy for Duluth City Council At-Large.

On Thursday, he kicked his campaign off at the Gary-New Duluth Rec center as a nod to his roots in the city.

Medved, who owns Korner Stores and Little Stores in the Northland, left his previous council seat half way through his term in 2022. He said at the time he needed to focus on his growing business, but he now says he’s all in for a full new term if elected.

“Of course, that’s always a big topic, you know, surrounding our tax base and everything, you know, all the conversations of wages and, you know, city infrastructure. So I think for sure the main bullet point is going to be about the budget. And how do we really focus on that? Of course, I love the budgeting aspect of the city, and we have a lot of good work to do, so you’ll hear me talk a lot about the budget.” Derek Medved, Candidate for At Large City Council Seat.

Medved’s campaign for council focuses on the same priorities he campaigned for in his first council win including a focus on infrastructure, public safety, affordable housing, and local business support.
