FDLTCC Students Present Research in Symposium
CLOQUET, Minn. — This week, students at Fond Du Lac Tribal and Community College presented their environmental research, a part of the campus’ ‘Earth Week’ celebrations.
Today the students with the environmental institute presented their projects in the research symposium.
Projects ranged between wildlife biology to forest related research. Others presentations talked about the mercury levels in our local water tributaries.
Some projects presented at this year’s symposium have been in the works for five years, while other students presented discoveries made in the last year.
“Something really cool with the research projects that we have going on is it exposes students to a really wide variety of tools and technologies, in a lot of different disciplines of environmental related study that frankly, I just don’t feel like you get that much experience at other schools. So it’s a really cool thing that we’re able to offer students here. Throughout the entire week, we’ve been able to have guest speakers come in to teach about different things related to either Earth Day as a whole, or sustainability as a whole, with having things to do with recycling. Or having different environmental groups come in to talk about the work that they do,” said Steve Gebhard, research coordinator, Environmental Institute FDLTCC.
Other events include a professor from UMD speaking at a panel about the relationship between science and art, and a showing of the documentary “Bad River.”
