Resource Renew Reminds Community about Common Recycling Questions
DULUTH, Minn. — Resource Renew, formerly known as Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD), is reminding the public about proper recycling and disposal methods.
Today at the Whole Foods Co-Op on Grand Ave., Emma Pardini, an environmental program coordinator, held a class with a Q&A about common recycling questions. Pardini emphasized the importance of reduce, renew, and recycle.
Resource Renew requires residents to separate aluminum, glass, plastic containers, and corrugated cardboard.
Common items like pizza boxes are generally considered not recyclable due to wax coating and grease that can damage the cardboard.
With glass and metal items, labels do not need to be removed.
“Recycling is especially important because anything that we aren’t able to recycle, or reuse, or repair, it still has to go somewhere in our line of work,” said Pardini. “We like to say there is no such thing as ‘away.’ And the away where most stuff disappears, if it’s not getting recycled and not getting reused, it’s going to the landfill. And here in our region, the landfill is going to be full over in Superior next year. After that, our trash is going to have to go somewhere else.”
If for some reason an item at home is confused on what or how to recycle, Resource Renew said that you can call their office at (218) 722-3336 and they’ll be able to answer to how to properly dispose of questionable objects.
