Man Taken into Custody After Hours-Long Standoff in Superior
SUPERIOR, WI. — A 36-year-old man was taken into custody early Monday morning following a standoff with police in Superior that began Sunday evening.
Officers were called around 5:30 p.m. to a disturbance at a home on the 900 block of Clough Avenue, where the man was reportedly yelling, breaking windows, and throwing debris from a second-story window.
A neighbor who entered the home to check on him found the man armed and suicidal, but was able to disarm him and flee.
Police attempted to communicate with the individual, who remained uncooperative and refused to exit the residence.
Negotiators from the Crisis Response Team were called in, but the man destroyed the phone provided for communication.
After hours of failed negotiations, the Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant and used gas munitions to enter the home.
The man was taken into custody with the use of a Taser around midnight.
