Superior Softball Shakes Off Early Season Woes
The Spartans are back at home on Thursday, May 1st against Duluth Marshall.
SUPERIOR, Wis.- It’s been a rarity for the Superior softball team to lose three games in a row.
You have to look back to the 2016 season when that last happened.
But, earlier this year when they faced tough competition on both sides of the border, it happened to them again.
No time to panic though as they were recently able to get back on track.
That’s thanks in part to their foundation, which has been based off their defense and their ability to get the bats rolling.
“I put a lot of pressure on batting. That’s where I feel like we really succeed as a team. We were struggling for a little bit there as our bats kind of fell apart. We have a really great defense, especially when everything is working. It’s just making sure that the second or third time we come up and see a pitcher again, we know what to expect, we know what to lay off. making pitch selection and stuff like that when we are up at the plate,” said head coach Bobbijean Gidley.
Throughout the ups and downs of a season, the Spartans continue to stick together.
“We just have grown together to realize, you don’t need to blame someone for a physical error. It’s ok it happens, and then just really be there for them and not try to make them feel worse than they already feel,” said Superior infielder Melania Luostari. “That’s what makes this team so special. We’re all really there for each other, we are like family genuinely.”
