Sheriff: ‘Tragic Outcome’ Avoided After Boy Shoots At Douglas Co. Deputies
TOWN OF SUPERIOR, Wis. – A shooting investigation is underway in the Town of Superior after authorities said a teen shot at deputies multiple times during a standoff.
The incident unfolded around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the 5000 block of STH 35.
Douglas County deputies responded there for a report of an out-of-control boy.
When authorities arrived, the 13-year-old is accused of going back in the house before coming out with a long gun, which is when a shot rang out, according to Sheriff Matt Izzard.
Deputies then took cover and set up a perimeter around the house.
Over the course of an hour, Sheriff Izzard said the teen emerged from the house and fired the gun at deputies at least four times.
One deputy reported a shot going over his head.
Eventually, the suspect left the house without a gun before entering a garage and then emerging with a tactical vest on.
He was then taken into custody. Nobody was injured.
In a statement, Sheriff Izzard commended the deputies for bringing a peaceful end to what could have been a “tragic outcome.”
