UW-Superior Softball Eyeing Third Straight UMAC Tournament Title

First pitch between the Yellowjackets and the Eagles is at 2 p.m on Thursday in Mankato.

SUPERIOR, Wis.- The UWS softball team had a dominant 2025 campaign, ending regular season play at 30-and-10.

But the Yellowjackets aren’t done yet, as UWS enters the UMAC postseason tournament later this week.

The Yellowjackets are in search of their third consecutive UMAC title.

UWS earned the second seed in the tournament, finishing behind Bethany Lutheran, who handed UWS two of their three conference loses in the regular season.

The Jackets will open up tournament play on Thursday in the semifinal round against Northwestern.

UWS understands that it is anyone’s game once the tournament begins.

“I think whoever is the best that weekend. You have to go in comfortable and confident and get some timely, pitching, hitting, and defensive performances. I think it’s anyone’s game once you get into that weekend. It’s not always necessarily the best team that comes out, I think it’s the team that has the best culture, the team that has the most confidence and the team that wants it the most,” said head coach Melissa Fracker.

As the defending UMAC Champions, the team knows they have a target on their backs.

“We kind of know that it is there, but I think that kind of puts a fire under us and makes us work even harder because we know that they are coming and we are ready for them,” said senior catcher Ellie Macal.

“People want to come and beat us. But that’s what we should want. I want everyone to give us their best, and then kind of see how it lays out at the end of the day,” added Fracker.

First pitch between the Yellowjackets and the Eagles is at 2 p.m on Thursday in Mankato.
