DULUTH, Minn. – Bishop Daniel Felton of the Diocese of Duluth released a statement after Cardinal Robert Prevost was named the new Pope, taking the name Pope Leo XIV:
With profound gratitude and joy, I join the faithful of the Diocese of Duluth and Catholics worldwide in welcoming the election of our new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV. This moment marks the next chapter in our Church’s two thousand year journey, guided by the Holy Spirit and rooted in the enduring mission of proclaiming the healing, hope, and joy found in Jesus Christ.
The conclave’s decision to elect our new pontiff invites us to embrace a future filled with renewed faith and commitment. Pope Leo XIV’s leadership will undoubtedly inspire us to deepen our relationship with Christ and to live out the Gospel with compassion and courage.
