True North Goodwill Leaving Garfield Ave., Opening $20M Headquarters At Atlas Industrial Park
Goodwill's headquarters near the Blatnik Bridge have been in operation since 1980.
DULUTH, Minn. – Since 1980, Duluth’s Goodwill has operated its headquarters near the base of the Blatnik Bridge on Garfield Avenue.
But now, that’s about to change in a big way.
A new True North Goodwill Resource and Training Center will be built in a new location at the Atlas Industrial Park on the western end of Duluth, which is home to Second Harvest Northland and an Amazon distribution facility.
The $20-million investment includes a 60,000-square-foot facility that is all about taking Goodwill to the next level for decades to come.
“We’ve outgrown the space on Garfield Avenue, right? And this new facility is going to let us grow into a new space, take us into a new set of programming that includes classrooms, skills training, CDL, CNA, all kinds of different things,” said Scott Vezina, director of community engagement at Goodwill. “We’ll also be partnering with the YMCA and childcare center, and that facility will be able to be used by program participants and employees of goodwill.”
Beyond the expansion, 75 news jobs will be created for a total of 135 employees at the new headquarters.
Eric Nordgren, director of educational experience and development at the College of St. Scholastica, was one of the many guests at the Goodwill gathering Thursday.
“Higher education is evolving. We’re dealing with a number of different challenges in terms of workforce, with declining traditional student population. So really looking at, how can we build partnerships with employers with other organizations that are going to help to meet those current and workforce needs in a really meaningful way, and being involved with communities like this is a really important step in doing that,” Nordgren said.
Construction of the site will begin in the fall, with an opening date scheduled for November 2026.
Goodwill’s goal is to raise $5 million for the project through a capital campaign and get another $5 to $7 million from the sale of the current building on Garfield Avenue. The rest of the $20 million is expected to come from organizational investment and financing.
