Northern Star: Kale Smith
Smith recently tallied his 100th career point.
HERMANTOWN, Minn.-There’s always something special about seeing an athlete reach a century mark.
It was no different on May 6th, when Hermantown/Proctor attacker Kale Smith tallied his 100th career point.
“I actually still have my first goal ball in my bedroom on my dresser. So I kind of still see that everyday to day and now I have my 100th point one up there. Which is cool to see and yeah it takes a lot of work to get that 100th point, but I couldn’t do it without my teammates,” said Smith.
And by lots of work he means.
“He can shoot the ball, he can pass, he’s knowledgable about where to be on the field, how to balance things out and just be a griddy player. Every game it’s like catch, get hit, score goals. There’s not a lot of complaining. There’s not a lot of extracurricular stuff. It’s just get in there, do the dirty work, do what needs to be done,” said head coach Steve Lokken.
With already a ton on his plate, the team even added more duties for Smith this season.
“We moved him from midfield to attack this year to just kind of keep him on the field and be that calming presense. Like get us some possessions and calm things down. Let’s get the offense on the field that we want. He’s been great in that role and really building guys up,” added Lokken.
A role that Smith takes plenty of pride in.
“It doesn’t feel like long ago I was the young freshman looking up to the older kids. So it’s kind of cool to have some people follow under my wing now that I’m a senior,” said Smith.
Smith and Hermantown/Proctor will next host Grand Rapids/Greenway on Friday.
