Hoyt Lakes Camper Witnesses Wildfire Operations

HOYT LAKES, Minn.– Up in the Northeast part of Minnesota, residents are trying to live life as usual.

And that is no exception for one of the visitors. Who came up for his annual camping trip.

The cluster of wildfires is still continuing to spread.

“We just kept an eye online, worried about getting evacuated, so we heard that’s a possibility,” said Anthony Scharber, visiting from Anoka.

And while camping in Hoyt Lakes, Scharber was able to witness the operations in real time.

“Watching the airplanes land in the water and all that, that’s not something you see every day except on the news. So, it was kind of neat to watch that. And they were running back and forth to the lake every 10-15 minutes,” said Scharber.

Scharber told FOX 21, the effects appeared fast.

“It wasn’t bad here at all until last night. The wind shifted, and the smoke rolled in, and it was thick. So, it just smelled like a campfire all night long. Started to burn the eyes. And got a little more concerned, asked the people in the office, and they said everything was alright,” explained Scharber.

In the meantime, the campers and residents are still carrying on as usual.

However, Scharber also said he was keeping a close eye on the conditions.
