Camp House and Jenkins Creek Wildfires Burn Slow, But Just Miles Apart

The Eastern Area Complex Incident Management Team said at Thursday's press conference that the fires are not contained, but their growth is slow

TWO HARBORS, Minn. – Eastern Area Complex Incident Management Team officials say the Camp House and Jenkins Creek wildfires have not grown as of Thursday, but remain just miles from one another.

At a press conference held Thursday at the Two Harbors Fire Department, authorities provided the latest update on the Camp House and Jenkins Creek wildfires. Collectively referred to as the Brimson Complex fire, they have burned around 30,000 acres, according to the Eastern Area Complex Incident Management Team.

Team Commander Brian Jenkins said they saw only minimal growth in the fires as of Thursday. The slow growth has not led to the blazes being contained, however, crews “haven’t shown any containment yet, but we’ve been making progress,” Jenkins said.

Jenkins said the work crews are doing now should pay off over the next few days. “We’ve got a dozer line in on the camp house fire on the southern edge. I would expect that as we get a few more days after getting that, some of that draws a line, and we’ll be able to start showing some containment on that southern portion here in a day or two.”

The Camp House and Jenkins Creek wildfires are burning southeast of Hoyt Lakes, and according to Jenkins, they are separated “right along highway 44. One’s on the north side, one’s on the south side. It’s [around] 4 to 6 miles.” Jenkins noted that the fires were not burning towards one another as of the press conference.
