Canvassing Board Approves of Organized Township 63-17
ORAGANIZED TOWNSHIP 63-17, Minn. — A new township has been approved by the Canvassing Board in northern St. Louis County.
Unorganized Township 63-17 has just became Organized Township 63-17. The new township is located between Beatty and Greenwood Townships.
Last week the township held a special election to be incorporated. 80 ballots were cast, with 49 votes in favor of organizing as a town.
“They are an unorganized township right now, so the county board is their board. The county board makes decisions on their behalf,” said Phil Chapman, the deputy auditor and election manager for St. Louis County. “So organizing as a township they can elect their officers. They’ll have a town board, a clerk, a treasurer and they’ll make decisions for the township on their own.”
The county board will next meet at their next board meeting and schedule their first organization meeting for the township.
The township has 110 registered voters.
A name has not been decided for the township, but will decided by registered voters at their organizational meeting. The county will pick a name for the township if voters can’t decided on one.
