Some containment announced for all major fires in Minnesota
DULUTH, Minn. – The Jenkins Creek Fire is now 6% contained with 199 people fighting the blaze.
It was the last of the major fires to reach any level of containment. The containment lines established are in the corner of the fire facing towards Fairbanks.
With drier and gustier weather predicted, protection of the Skibo and Hoyt Lakes communities remains a priority. Multiple hotshot crews are working the perimeter and interior of the fire.
The containment level was announced the morning of May 19.
The Camp House Fire has containment lines are near its Southern and Northern borders. They are protecting the areas towards Brimsom and Bassett. The Camp House Fire is 40% contained.
More hand crews have arrived fighting the blaze. That allowed other crews to move their focus to the Jenkins Fire.
Hotshot crews and dozers were also able to connect the line to both sides of Brimson Lake on the south end of the fire. On the north end, firefighters continued to build protection around structures and key infrastructure. Masticating equipment is clearing snags and downed trees from areas near roads and within the fire perimeter.
The Munger Shaw Fire is now 95% contained. Fire crews say drones have been key in fighting this blaze – allowing them to find and battle the hot spots.
