Containment Continues Around Camp House Fire; Jenkins Creek Fire Stalls

 

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Minn. — In the last day containment around the Camp House fire grew from 40% to 59%.

There are now four containment lines targeting the fire from all sides protecting the area south of Bassett, area north of Brimson, and areas to the east of Hornby and Breda. These lines were strengthened in preparation of Tuesday’s windy conditions.Jenkins Creek Fire

394 fire crew personnel are continuing to extinguish hot spots. Helicopters and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) helped firefighters below to achieve the containment. Masticator equipment was used along the south end to grind down and remove fallen trees. Firefighters will be focusing on maintaining containment lines and catching any flare-ups with the expected windy weather.

The Jenkins Creek Fire is still at a 6% containment. Firefighters assigned to a Structure Protection group established a plan for Skibo and Hoyt Lakes in case the fires advanced in that direction.

Crews will aim to slow the fire’s spread adding fuel breaks and setting hose lays. Currently 227 fire personal have been deployed with more resources to be assigned to the western side of the fire. This will provide initial attack capabilities in the event of flare-ups triggered by windy conditions.

The Munger Shaw fire is still considered 95% contained with few personal deployed to target hotspots that further eruption of new flames.

Some roads have reopened to through-traffic along sections of Hwy 44. The St. Louis County Sheriff Office will continue to update road closures and evacuation plans for residents of St. Louis and Cook County.

A wind advisory is in effect until 1 a.m. tonight. A red flag warning has been issued for St. Louis County on Tuesday from Noon to 9 p.m.

Northeastern Minnesota continues to restrict open burnings in St. Louis, Carlton, Cook, Lake, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, and Aitkin Counties.
