Great Lakes Aquarium Steps Back in Time with New Exhibit
DULUTH, Minn. — Great Lakes Aquarium is taking the public back in time with a new exhibit.
The exhibit, “Lava to Lakes,” looks to explore Minnesota’s origin story when this land was covered by giant, ancient seas.

Plus the exhibit features some of Minnesota’s most pre-historic creatures to find a glimpse into Minnesota’s past.
“What’s really interesting about this exhibit is we get to see how history has changed, and it reminds us that everything we do right now is also going to have an influence in the lives of the people and the animals and the nature that is here hundreds and 1000s of years from now,” said Shawana Weaver, the director of learning and engagement. “And so it’s really important for people to get a sense of what has happened here, so that we can have an understanding of where we might be going from here, and we get to have power in and influence in what happens.”
This exhibit was nearly $1,000,000 to put together. $500,000 was funded from a grant from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
