Richard I Bong Museum Honors ‘Wisconsin Remembers’ Exhibit & Memorial Day

SUPERIOR, Wis.– The Richard I Bong Museum in Superior is highlighting Memorial Day for a few reasons this year.

Right on time for this day of observance the Veterans Service Office of Douglas County selected the museum to display the ‘Wisconsin Remembers’ exhibit.

The exhibit showcases the servicemen that came from each county, that served in the Vietnam War.

The Executive Director told FOX 21, it has already made a significant impact.

Over 500 people saw it this past weekend.

“Whenever we get an opportunity to have an exhibit like this, we’re very excited about it. And we certainly jump at the chance to do it. It helps us with our mission. And the Vietnam War, a lot of people were lost to it, but what people don’t realize, and what you realize when you work close to veterans, is we’re still losing people from the Vietnam War daily,” explained John Gidley, Executive Director of the Richard I Bong Museum.

The ‘Wisconsin Remembers’ exhibit isn’t the only thing drawing in visitors today.

One visitor was here in honor of a handful of loved ones who served in World War 2.

“My brother and my dad don’t live here in Superior. And so, to be able to come here to do a rubbing of this and send it to them, and I just sent them photographs of this and it means a lot to them. And if they ever make it back this way to be able to bring them through and they can see it for themselves,” said Rebecca Olson, a Memorial Day visitor.

The ‘Wisconsin Remembers’ exhibit will only stay until Wednesday the 28th.

And the museum is always hosting events for veterans and loved ones alike, to make sure no one’s story gets forgotten.
