Veterans for Peace Hold Alternative Memorial Day Ceremony
DULUTH, Minn. — At Gichi-Ode’ Akiing Park, Veterans for Peace held their own Memorial Day Remembrance while also calling for an end for conflicts around the globe.
The ceremony started with a solemn bell ringing to honor all victims of war.
Veteran speakers also spoke about how war affected them, other veterans, and people affected by war.
“We’re not being very creativity or imaginative about solving these wars, other than sending more hardware,” said Tom Morgan, a veteran and a member of Chapter 80 for Veterans for Peace. “We don’t acknowledge the enormous costs that war-making does to every society. And that’s the message that we want to convey and to look for alternatives. There are alternatives.”
Veterans for Peace say the best way to honor those who served and fought for their country is to work for peace.
