Chester Bowl Launches Year-Round Cadet+ Program for Young Leaders

DULUTH, Minn. — The Chester Bowl Improvement Club has announced that they’re expanding their cadet programming.

The Cadet Program has helped shaped youth in the community for generations. The club has typically offered their teen and tween leadership training program during the club’s winter and summer programing.

Today, the club announced the launch of their Cadet+, which would run year-round.

“So you get to see these kiddos that come to camp or ski and snowboard at Chester, they get a little older and like to become youth volunteers,” said Sam Luoma, programs and operations director at Chester Bowl. ” Just like anything, some start off with some have more skills and some have fewer skills and overtime they blossom into these young leaders. Some of these kids are going to end up being staff here someday. Then I’ll get to continue to work with them. It’s really an amazing opportunity.”

The Cadet+ program will have youth leaders teach skiing and snowboarding lessons in the winter and serve as a “junior counselor” during Chester Bowl’s summer camp. But in the spring and fall season, youths would have a chance to work with children, attend job readiness sessions, and take part in service projects. They’ll also have the chance to picking up a new skill like archery.

“Being able to having programming offered at a place like Chester Bowl is critical not just to the families and youth that are in our community right now, but those that are looking at being in this community in the future,” saidĀ Matt Baumgartner, the president of the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce. “If we don’t have the opportunity to have youth development here at Chester Bowl, then we run the risk of not havingĀ  then adequate opportunities for youth to have constructive things in their lives.”

The Cadet+ Program is available for youths between 7th through 10th grade. To sign up for Cadet+, click here.
