Highway 53 Portion of Twin Ports Interchange Has End in Sight
DULUTH, Minn. — The Twin Ports Interchange project has a end date in sight for the HWY 53 Reconstruction. This portion connects HWY 53 to Piedmont Avenue.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced in a virtual meeting that this portion of the interchange project is expected to by completed by November 4.
Last month, the last steel beam was laid over Superior St. in Lincoln Park. Project Manager Pete Marthaler said construction crews are working on deck pours with hopes to finish the roadway by August.
The additional time until November will be used to put up signage, paint the roads, and barrier railing.
Later in July, MinnDot plans to rework 21st Ave. W connecting to W 1st St. Marthaler said that project should take about 3 weeks. But from Tuesday through Saturday of this week, the HWY 53 ramps are closed at 21st Avenue W.
There are no updates on the Garfield Avenue gap, which connects the Blatnik Bridge to HWY 535 N on the Minnesota side of the bridge.
