State and City Officials Visit New C. Reiss Shipping Dock in Superior
SUPERIOR, Wis. — After relocating to across the bridge, C. Reiss Company’s new Superior shipping facility getting in the swing of things.
Wednesday state and local officials, including Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, got a glimpse of the work that has been done since the opening of the dock earlier this year.
Increasing water levels promoted the move from Duluth to Superior.
The facility grounds in Superior had been unused for the last 30 years and underwent renovations that started in the fall of 2023.
Now the new location is up and running and provides a larger space and more opportunities for unloading product.
“When you’re when you’re providing a service for a business that needs 24/7 operations. You want to make sure you have additional capacity so that you’re not running them out of whatever they need,” Keith Haselhoff, C. Reiss Company CEO said. “Over here, we can get 75 rail cars on the site. We can load 50 rail cars in a day. We’ve increased our capacity. We have the ability to handle all of their business and more at this site.”
The Superior facility also has a bigger slip, allowing ships to be loaded with more product compared to the Duluth location.
“The slip has a deeper draft, which allows you to put more commodity on each boat. And we were over in Duluth, we were looking at like 20 to 25,000 tons each boat. Now we’re getting 30 to 35,000 tons each boat, which helps out,” Haselhoff said.
C. Reiss will continue ownership of their Duluth terminal and will work with outside partners at that cite.
