SUPERIOR, Wis.– A handful of graduates are walking the stage today, celebrating 9 months of hard work and ton of impactful job experience.
The internship caters to members of the working force with disabilities.
And it gives them the opportunity to experience rotations throughout the Superior Essentia.
It was there they got to learn how to be a good coworker, as well as practicing interpersonal skills.
An official said, one intern is going to school for cyber security, and one is seeking out a job in healthcare.
Another is interested in food service, and one intern likes the idea of working in a coffee shop.
“A lot of folks will think, ‘they have a disability, they aren’t going to be able to go out and work’. But we’ve spent a lot of time supporting and giving them opportunities. They have risen and surpassed the expectations for the last nine months,” said Shawna Anderson, Executive Director, Embark Supported Employment.
According to the Project Search website, the program has helped out 5-thousand interns across the nation.
