Zeitgeist Hosts Comedy Play Fest and Willy Wonka Screening in Early June

DULUTH, Minn. –  Zeitgeist is hosting a short play fest and Willy Wonka during the first week of June.

This week, Zeitgeist is teaming up with Renegade Comedy and Hucklebeary to create multiple events for locals to enjoy. They will be hosting Barrel of Laughs, a short play festival centered on comedy, in the teatro. This will be the first time the short play fest is presented to the public, making it a brand-new addition to the local art scene.

“We’ve got more than 200 submissions from around the country of short plays less than 20 minutes, and they have to be funny, so that was the criteria, and we will whittled it down to six selections.” said Robert Lee, the managing director for Renegade Comedy.

There will also be a screening of the classic 1971 film “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” The event will be an immersive experience complete with plenty of chocolate.

“We are going to transform this space into a really fun, immersive Willy Wonka experience,” said Emily Ekstrom, owner of Hucklebeary.

The Barrel of Laughs is taking the stage June 4 and 5, with a screening of Willy Wonka on June 5.
