Duluth Marshall Baseball Gearing Up for First State Tournament Since 2022
The Hilltoppers open up the state quarterfinal round on Wednesday, June 11th.
DULUTH, Minn.- The three-year wait is almost over for the Duluth Marshall baseball team.
Wednesday will mark their first state tournament game since the 2022 season.
Marshall earned the top seed in the class AA tournament and will face the 8th seed Concordia Academy in the first round.
In their 2025 campaign the Hilltoppers posted a 21-2 record.
In the section 7AA title game, the Hilltoppers defeated Proctor 6 to 3.
At the state tournament Marshall knows they need to compete every single play.
“We got to play well rounded baseball, at the end of the day we got to pick it up, we got to score with runners, right. Somebody’s got to come up with that clutch hit,” said head coach Nick Garramone. “This is a group of competitors, and they want to compete. It doesn’t matter who we play, we always talk about it, we play the baseball, and my kids get mad at me cause they wanted to know what team we are playing and stuff. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. You know who controls the baseball is usually going to win that game.”
“This crew of kids is very special and so we want to do it for them and make sure they have one heck of a sendoff.”
To bring home a state championship, Marshall added they need to keep building on their game.
“We build on it by our practices. Our practices need to be just great. We need to hit, we need field, we need to do everything we a certain feeling, 100 percent. If we can do that I believe we go really deep in the state tournament,” said Hilltoppers pitcher Alden Marsolek.
“We just got to keep what we are doing. We are playing great baseball right now. All our hitters got to stay on our approach, pitchers got to through strikes and we got to play clean defense,” said Hilltoppers infielder Aaden Westerbur.
