1 Dead, 2 Arrested After Overnight Shooting In Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. — The Duluth Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that took place early Sunday morning in the city’s Central Hillside neighborhood.

The call for help came in around 1:30 a.m. in the 100 block of East 3rd Street.

When officers arrived, they located a male with multiple gunshot wounds.  He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

A police spokesperson told FOX 21 that the victim was shot on the porch of the residence.

The shooter also shot at another male who was not injured, according to officials.

Investigators identified two suspects and put out a description to area law enforcement agencies of the get-away vehicle.

Cloquet police said one of their officers spotted the vehicle and ultimately arrested the suspects.   The suspected shooter is identified as a 35-year-old male who is being held in the St. Louis County Jail on preliminary charges of second-degree murder and first-degree assault.   A 41-year-old woman is also in jail with preliminary charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder.

Formal charges were pending Sunday.  When criminal complaints are filed by the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office, FOX 21 will name the suspects.

The name of the victim was not immediately released Sunday.

As for a motive, investigators believe it was targeted.

“The Duluth Police Department has determined all individuals involved in this tragic incident are known to each other and are investigating a prior incident that may have perpetuated the shooting homicide,” according to the news release.
