Tuesday Morning Northland Forecast: 6/17/2025

A Calmer Day

The showers finally got here yesterday, along with thunderstorms, torrential rains, and a few tornadoes. Duluth only got .12″ of rain, and Superior a measly .07″. But to our north, Grand Rapids got 1.25″ of rain, and Hibbing got hit with 2.36″ of rain last evening, producing some flooding in the area. They could use a couple dry days of sunshine, and they will get it, starting today.

The strong low that came out of North Dakota and brought the Northland some rough weather late yesterday has now moved up into eastern Ontario, where they will get some rain today. For us, high pressure will follow in the wake of that low, bringing us a nice amount of sunshine for today and tomorrow, with highs in the 70s (average high is 73). We will have northwest winds today, and the air quality will be good, as wildfire smoke will stay up in Canada for the next couple days, at least.

As we move towards Grandma’s Marathon on Saturday, we are watching the temperatures and chances for rain. The outlook for precipitation increases on Thursday, and we may see some showers and thunderstorms late on Friday. That could put a damper on some events Friday evening. At this time, it actually looks dry for Saturday morning racetime, with temps in the mid 50s. The high Saturday will be 75, but the races will be long done by the time we hit that temp.

So, we are good to go, today and tomorrow. We will keep our eyes to the skies, and the computer models, come Thursday and Friday.
