Beaver Bay to get new mayor because of law confusion
BEAVER BAY, Minn. – The city of Beaver Bay is slated to have a new mayor effective July 7, 2025.
Marcus Huss was selected to be the new mayor at the June 17 city council meeting.
Previous mayor Tom Gmach is resigning due to a process issue with his election.
The issue goes back to 2022.
That’s when city leaders decided to change the mayor’s term from a two-year term to a four-year term.
That decision was not properly codified in the city by-laws.
Therefore with Gmach, who was elected three years ago, was technically acting as mayor without being rightfully elected.
Huss, who was previously mayor, will serve in the post until the next election.
