Mesabi Metallic’s Welcomes Community to Tour New Facility
NASHWAUK, Minn. — On Thursday night, Mesabi Metallic’s welcomed more than 3-hundred 70 people to tour the progress on their new state-of-the-art mine and pellet plant in Nashwauk.
Both community members and state lawmakers were invite to Mesabi Metallic’s open house and town hall.
The new facility is Minnesota’s newest mine in nearly 50 years and the company has visions to think more sustainable while mining on the Iron Range.
The new mine is expected to support a 7-million tons per year beneficiation plant to process raw ore and a 7-million ton per year pellet plant.
The project has cost Mesabi Metallic’s $1.9-billion so far with the company expecting to invest another $500-million to complete the new plant by the first quarter of 2026.
