The William A. Irvin 5k opened up Grandma’s Marathon weekend on Friday.

In the men’s race, Mason Shea from River Falls Wisconsin won the race with a time of 15:32 to claim his third William A. Irvin 5k title.

For the women’s race, a historic day as 13 year old Mackenzie Myran finished in first place with a time of 18:34.

Myran is the youngest runner to win the William A. Irvin 5K.

“It’s so rewarding, this is my favorite event. We try to come up here every year. Last summer I was out of town unfortunately this weekend. Just being back in the area was so fun,” said Shea. “The second-place guy and I go back a few years, we have known each other for a while. It was fun to run with him for a mile or so and then kind of go off feel and start pushing.”

For Myran this is her second William Irvin 5k that she has ran in.

“I had a goal, and I just tried to pick off people that I could and just stay up there,” said Myran. “I loved it, I did this last year, and I really love this course.”

This year’s William Irvin 5k had a total of 2,550 runners complete the race.
