Damiano Center Completes Third Floor Remodel

DULUTH, Minn.– The third floor of the Damiano Center was once used as a place for storage but now it will be a space that will help the community.

The 13,000 sq ft space was transformed into a set of four dorm rooms, and a large gathering space which will house 120 current CHUM residents, while CHUM also goes under construction.

The 2.4-million-dollar project began construction five months ago, and city officials described the process as “an abundance of collaboration”.

“It matters so much to us. It is our solution for folks that are camping is permanent, supportive housing. We need the state, and we need the federal government to lean in with us, to help us solve these problems that we’re seeing across many cities, not just Duluth. This isn’t a Duluth problem. This is a country problem and so but today is a celebration,” said Roz Randorf, Third District City Councilor.

Even after CHUM’s construction is complete, the third-floor space is intended to help Duluthians for years to come.

“This is going to be a long going, part of their service, part of the plethora of services that is provided through CHUM, through Stepping on Up, and through the Damiano Center,” added Randorf.
