U.S Navy Stops By Northwood Children’s Services During Duluth Navy Week

DULUTH, Minn. — Navy Week is back in Duluth, getting sailors engaged with the public through events and projects.

Members of the U.S Navy stopped by Northwood Children’s Services to talk about the history of the Navy, what the Navy does and hosted various activities. Those included knot tying and an obstacle course, with the chance to race against one of the sailors.

Members of the Ceremonial Guard Drill Team also performed a rifle exhibition.

The event allowed for kids to learn about the Navy and ask questions to the sailors.

“I hope that they learn and take away that you know, there are people doing really important jobs, and people who are invested in them also and are coming here and spending their own time to know about them and give them the opportunity to meet them and think about what maybe they want in their life as they grow up,” Morgana Kolenda, Director of Resource Development at Northwood Children’s Services said.

Northwood Children’s Service provides mental health treatment programs and sees 300 children daily in Duluth, ranging from three to eighteen years old.
