UW System Proposes Tuition Increase for 25-26 School Year
WISCONSIN — Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman today announced a proposal to increase tuition for undergraduates by up to 5%.
The proposal would see a 4% increase at all universities, and an optional 1% additional increase.
All universities except UW-Green Bay intends to take the optional increase.
UW-River Falls is seeking an additional increase to support student success initiatives, for a total of 5.8%.
Due to nearly a decade long tuition freeze, the UW system has only raised tuition by 7.7% in the past ten years, while neighboring states have increased by 21-28%.
Rothman said in the press release “thankfully, the Governor and legislature approved a significant budget increase, the largest in over two decades, which enables us to preserve access and affordability.”
“Our public universities have become tuition-dependent due to lagging state funding in prior years, and the turnaround this budget cycle will help us continue providing educational opportunities to the next generation of Wisconsinites.”
This proposed increase would see UW-Superior tuition rise about $460 per year for resident students.
