The school won the 2025 Minnesota Charter School Innovation Award. The award highlights the hands-on learning approach that Harbor City prides themselves on.

Three times a year, students are offered immersive sessions, ranging from sailing, to winter survival skills.

Last year students logged over 2,000 hours of service in the community, including restoration on the Superior Hiking Trail.

“Our students get a chance to have real world learning, hands on getting to try things. They also get a chance to try things that might become new hobbies or passions for them, new careers. And it’s a really important part of our overall really strong academic program at our school,” Aryn Bergsven, Executive Director of Harbor City International School said.

Harbor City International School is a public charter school. Starting this fall, the school will be adding 7th and 8th grades to its already existing high school program.
