Duluth’s Best Bread Speaks on Incline Village Fallout

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The owner of Duluth’s Best Bread expressed disappointment after hearing a business fallout involving the proposed Incline Village Development in Duluth.

The popular bakery planned to be the first retail tenant for the development on the old Central High School property off of central entrance. But just this week, the project’s construction development company, ICS, terminated its contract with Incline Village developers. This came after DEDA brought up concerning Financial breaches of the contract with the developers.

While the future of the project isn’t certain tonight, Duluth Best Bread will start over to find that perfect fourth location in the Northland.

“I think this gives us a chance to pause and focus on what we’re doing internally,” said Robert Lillegard, owner of Duluth’s Best Bread. “But yeah, this lets us kind of dreamscape another fourth location in the next maybe year or two years. We’re not quite as committed to the next year deadline that we were going to do with this development, but we have a lot of pieces in place and a lot of energy around it.”

Lillegard says opening a fourth may take a couple of years. In the meantime, he’s focused on improving the flavors of his three locations in Duluth and Superior.
