Friday Evening Northland Forecast: 7/25/2025

Sunny Saturday, Showery Sunday

Another Friday, another day of waiting for the Air Quality Alert to expire. This time, the Alert is set to expire at 11pm tonight (Friday). This alert includes the entire Northland, of northern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, and most of the U.P. of Michigan. So, it’s effecting, literally, millions of people. There’s going to be a time, later this summer, when the Canadian wildfires subside, and we can quit worrying about this persistent smoke from the Great White North, right? I mean, the wildfires can’t burn all winter. Probably? It seems to me, that last summer, we pretty much stopped talking about the wildfire smoke by mid-August. So, if history repeats itself, that will be about 3 more weeks. I’m setting my timer…now.

So, assuming the smoke does what it’s supposed to do, and vacates our area overnight, Saturday will be sunny, warm and windy. High pressure will bring us lots of sunshine, blue skies, and strong southwest winds (20mph), and a warmer than normal high of about 85. Sunday, a low from the northwest will bring us a 50% to 70% chance for showers and thunderstorms, particularly Sunday afternoon and evening. And, with strong winds from the south, we are also expecting to have dewpoints of around 70 degrees. Yucch. Sunday might be a good day to get some free air conditioning at the mall, or a movie theater, with a high of 86 degrees. Next week, it’s a return to more of a Northland-like summer week, with highs dropping down to the mid 70s, along with sunshine, and no smoke!

You also may have noticed the days are getting noticeably shorter. We recently had sunsets after 9:00pm, but not any longer. The sun is down by about 8:48pm. So, here we go…that long, slow trek to the shortest day of the year, just before Christmas. Well, at least the wildfires in Canada should be done, by THEN!
