City Charter Commission Recommends Duluth Council Pay Increase

City Hall

DULUTH, Minn. — A pay increase is being recommended for Duluth city councilors, which would be the first increase since 2018.

The City Charter Commission is proposing councilors be paid $1,425 a month, up from $1,150 per month, bringing a councilor’s annual pay to $17,100.

For all nine councilors, the increase would add up to $29,700 out of the $108 million general fund budget.

Councilors normally only vote on items $50,000 or more, but because it is a Charter Commission item, the council must vote on it.

The next city council meeting is Monday, July 28.
