‘Head of the Lakes United Way’ Launches Free Babysitting Classes
DULUTH, Minn.– ‘Head of the Lakes United Way’ teamed up with the American Red Cross to give kids the opportunity for a valuable childcare class.
The babysitting classes caters to kids aged 11 to 17 who are interested in seeing what it’s all about.
The free 1-day course covers everything from basic first aid, to fun activities while babysitting.
There are 10 classes scheduled for the rest of the calendar year.
After the student completes the course, they are gifted a ‘babysitting kit’ to bring home.
In addition, the students become pediatric CPR certified, and in AED use.
“Everything’s covered totally free of cost, with the hope of, you know, providing more childcare options in our community, and then opportunities for young people to make money and have some financial stability, and then hopefully, kind of enter the childcare realm, if that’s something that they enjoy doing,” said Sarah Niemi, President of Head of the Lakes United Way.
The classes are available for kids in the greater Duluth area, Douglas County, Ashland, Bayfield, and lake and cook counties.
Each class teaches 24 kids at a time. To register, or volunteer to make babysitting kits, you can visit their website
